Montessori Learning Activities

We will be introducing the Montessori learning philosophy to two of our classrooms.

There will be 12 positions for 2-3 year olds and 24 positions for 4 - 5 year olds

Specialised Montessori learning equipment has been imported from overseas and our staff are undergoing specialised training

The Montessori programs will operate during the normal school term between the hours of 9.00am - 3.00pm. Long Day Care hours and Vacation Care care can be arranged for children that require longer hours of care

Montessori learning is based on the following principles;

Children are motivated by self development rather than by the teacher

It is an ungraded process

Montessori equipment designed to be self correcting and the teacher is less involved in correcting errors

Children learn by handling objects and teaching themselves

Montessori is an individual learning process rather than group learning

Teachers are observers and directors rather than the dominant influence

Children complete tasks in their own time rather than having a set time

There is a freedom to move and work within the classroom rather than having an assigned seat

Children maintain quiet by choice out of regard for others, rather than having it enforced on them

Montessori learning materials are used for a specific purpose with a series of steps to encourage development

Children work for joy of working and sense of discovery

Montessori environment provides discipline.

Children are encouraged to help one another.

Children choose their own activity

Children set their own pace.

Montessori room has a specific place for each set of materials which creates a sense of order.

Children create their own stimulus to learn.

The use of special multi sensory materials to develop specific skills.

If you are interested in taking part in this exciting "Montessori" initiative we would ask you to contact the centre without delay to ensure that you secure a place.
