Room of Peace:

Hello Everyone – I’m happy to say that we are working through our Montessori program and the children are really embracing it. We planted broccoli seeds and we are slowly watching them grow but they are not quite big enough to plant out in our veggie patch yet. Last week Mel attended Montessori training on how to present lessons, develop practical life skills, Montessori materials and grace and courtesy lessons. Mel also attended a conference in Brisbane where she had the opportunity to tour other centres. Two lectures she attended at conference were by Paul Epstein Ph.D, who is the Author of many books on the theory and practice of the Montessori method of learning and development. Mel found this a great inspiration which she can now implement in the Room of Peace. We are focussing on language and literacy this term and introducing the sand paper sensorial alphabet gradually. We play “I spy” whilst matching the moveable alphabet phoneme sound with a tangible object match of the sound. eg. a / ant; b / ball, d / duck, etc. A phoneme’s is the smallest unit in the sound system of a language essential to pre reading and writing. Nicole who has been in the infants has joined our group and Kate who has recently completed her Teaching Qualification has also joined our group.
